UK Airports Close Due to Heavy Snowfall

January 5, 2025

Several UK airports, including Manchester, Liverpool, and Birmingham, were forced to close their runways overnight due to heavy snowfall, resulting in delays, cancellations, and flight diversions.

Manchester Airport reopened both runways at approximately 09:45 GMT after several hours of closure on Sunday morning. During the closure, no flights landed, and all incoming aircraft were diverted to other airports.

At least 12 flights destined for Manchester were redirected to alternative airports, including London Heathrow, Birmingham, Dublin, Glasgow, and Paris, according to the flight tracking service Flightradar24.

Liverpool John Lennon Airport has since reopened its runway, but Leeds Bradford Airport’s runway remains closed.
