Avoid £100 Fine: File Your Self-Assessment Tax Return Promptly

January 31, 2025

Millions of people in the UK have still yet to submit their online self-assessment tax returns before the midnight deadline tonight (Friday 31st January), risking a £100 fine, HMRC has warned.

More than three million individuals at risk of penalties are being urged to seek help and guidance online and use the HMRC app to settle any outstanding tax once their return is filed.

There are new rules too for declaring income generated or received online. For example, under new rules, those selling around 30 items on online platforms like eBay and Vinted will have their sales data shared with HMRC, which will be checked against their tax returns.
