To mark International Women’s Day, libraries across South Lanarkshire are celebrating in a practical way by adding 465 new books to library shelves.
The books cover a range of topics around women’s health, including advice about periods and the menopause.
Period products are also available at all libraries – they are free, with no questions asked and individuals can take what they need.
International Women’s Day (IWD) take place on Sunday 8 March and the theme this year is ‘Give to gain’.
Chair of the Community Planning Partnership, Council Leader Joe Fagan, said: “IWD is a global day celebrating the social, economic and cultural achievements of women.
“There is no doubt that since the first IWD more than a century ago, as a society we have come a very long way in terms of gender equality, women’s rights and our understanding of the causes and impact of violence against women and girls.
“But there is still a long way to go, and IWD gives everyone the chance to focus on the need to challenge stereotypes, fight bias, broaden perceptions, improve situations and celebrate women’s achievements.
“Gender equality is essential for economies and our communities to thrive.”
