Glasgow Proposes 5% Visitor Levy for Tourists

January 30, 2025

Following the announcement that Edinburgh is introducing a tourist tax, Glasgow City Council is set to launch a public consultation on the introduction of a similar 5% visitor levy for overnight stays in the city.

The proposed tourist tax would apply to accommodation including hotels, hostels, guest houses, B&Bs, and self-catering properties.

The levy is expected to generate £12.5 million per year, with £11 million allocated to funding events and enhancing the city’s appearance and overall visitor experience.
