With drivers in South Lanarkshire now facing a £100 fine for parking on pavements, it’s worth noting that this is not just an empty threat from authorities—the rule is actively being enforced, and wardens have already been spotted.
On Thursday, 30th January, residents in Blantyre contacted Lanarkshire Telegraph to report that wardens were in these areas, visibly issuing notices to offending vehicles.
However, not everyone is happy with the new enforcement. Some took to social media to express frustration, arguing that forcing cars to park elsewhere—or fully on already narrow roads—compromises both their security and the safety of others.
The new rules aim to protect pedestrians, particularly wheelchair users and those pushing buggies, who may otherwise be forced onto the road due to obstructed pavements. It’s believed that warning notices were initially issued to allow drivers time to adjust to the changes. Parking fines in South Lanarkshire stand at £100.
What do you think? Have you seen this being enforced yet?
