Winter Solstice 2025: Significance and Celebrations

December 21, 2025

Today, Sunday 21st December is Winter Solstice.

From today, the days will start to get longer and we’ll get more daylight , the nights appearing to get lighter, earlier again.

Many people gather at historic sites at the Solstice and for sites like Stonehenge in England, it was once again busy at sunrise. It’s the opposite of the summer solstice, which has the most daylight and the shortest night.

This year, the winter solstice falls on 21 December. In fact, the solstice doesn’t last all day and is marked at 15:03 GMT, if you want to be exact.

In the UK, the day will be shorter the further north you are, We’re looking forward to brighter nights. Are you?
