Sad Fatality on the M8

A man has sadly died after being struck by an HGV on the M8 earlier today.

The incident happened around 12:40pm on Thursday, 28th August, between Junction 5 Shotts and Junction 6 Newhouseon the busy Glasgow to Edinburgh route.

Emergency services responded quickly, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene. His family has since been informed.

Both carriageways were closed for much of the day, reopening around 8pm this evening. Police confirm enquiries into the circumstances remain ongoing.

Our deepest sympathies go out to the man’s loved ones at this difficult time.
