Historic Baird’s Building in Hamilton Hits the Market

July 27, 2025

A prominent former department store in Hamilton town centre has hit the market. Baird’s, located on Duke Street, is now up for sale with offers invited in excess of £150,000.

Just a short walk from Hamilton Central station, the three-storey building boasts significant space with 6,217 sq ft on the ground floor and 8,326 sq ft on both the first and second floors. Listed by property agents Savills, the site sits in a busy, high-profile location ideal for redevelopment.

Although planning permission was granted in 2018 for a mixed-use transformation into a public house, restaurant, and hotel (application P/18/0287), that approval has since lapsed.

Baird’s, once a well-known name in local retail, has stood empty since closing its doors back in 2014 and could now be revived under new ownership.
