Microsoft has announced that Skype, the video-calling service once used by hundreds of millions, will shut down in May.
Once among the world’s most popular platforms, Skype enabled people to make free voice calls via their computers, connecting friends and family worldwide.
Although it was neither the first nor the only company offering such a service, Skype played a key role in popularising computer-to-computer calls by making them accessible to the public at no cost.
