Storm Éowyn: The Strongest Storm in a Decade

January 25, 2025

The Met Office has described Storm Éowyn as “probably the strongest storm” to impact the UK in over a decade, with wind gusts exceeding 100mph. At its peak, the storm left nearly one million properties without power across the British Isles, while numerous roads and rail routes were obstructed.

In Ireland, a 20-year-old man tragically lost his life when a tree fell on his car as winds reached a record 114mph (183 km/h). Scotland and Northern Ireland experienced extensive property damage, with Network Rail Scotland reporting almost 400 incidents of damage.
