First Bus Removes 30 Buses from Glasgow Fleet Amid Technical Failures

January 8, 2025

First Bus has temporarily removed 30 buses from its Glasgow fleet due to “technical failures.”

The affected vehicles, part of a 2023 order of 50 electric buses with batteries capable of running over 370km (229 miles) on a single three-hour charge, have been replaced by ultra-low emission diesel buses brought in from across the UK.

BBC Scotland reports that the issue is not related to the batteries or electric vehicle technology, and there is no safety risk involved.

Passengers noticed the change when buses from Lanarkshire, Yorkshire, and Leicester were seen at a Glasgow depot.

A First Bus spokesperson stated: “We have identified a technical failure in 30 buses, and all affected vehicles have been taken out of service until the issue is resolved.”
