Reservoir Levels Plummet in Scotland: SEPA Takes Action

August 25, 2025

Scotland’s reservoirs have been left struggling this summer, with water levels sitting far below average following the driest spring since 1964, combined with weeks of hot weather.

The situation is most severe in the east of the country, where the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) has now stepped in to introduce curbs on water use to protect supplies and ease pressure on the environment. Farmers, businesses, and households are being urged to use water responsibly as stocks dip to worrying levels.

There is some hope on the horizon, however. Rainfall is expected across parts of the country later this week, which should bring a much-needed boost to reservoir levels and help stabilise supplies.

💬 Do you think Scotland is prepared enough for future droughts, or does more need to be done to secure our water supply?
