Keir Starmer’s Bold Move on Palestinian State Recognition

July 29, 2025

Prime Minister Keir Starmer has announced that the UK will recognise a Palestinian state at a UN meeting in Septemberunless Israel takes meaningful action to end the crisis in Gaza.

He stated this recognition would go ahead unless the Israeli government enacts a ceasefire and commits to a long-term peace process. The move signals growing international pressure following months of violence and humanitarian concern.

🇮🇱 In response, Israel condemned the plan, claiming it would “reward Hamas and harm ceasefire efforts.”

Currently, around 140 countries recognise a Palestinian state. France also pledged support last week, committing to formal recognition at the same upcoming UN meeting.

💬 Do you support the UK’s position? Should recognition depend on Israel’s actions?
