A teenager has tragically died after his car was hit by a falling tree during Storm Éowyn.

The 19-year-old was driving along the B743 in Mauchline, East Ayrshire, at around 06:45 on Friday when the incident occurred.

He was rushed to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow but sadly passed away on Saturday from his injuries.

The accident happened just over three hours before a red weather alert came into effect in parts of Scotland.

Sgt Chris McColm from Police Scotland’s road policing unit said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the young man who has died.”
