Scotland’s newest homelessness village at Rutherglen’s Harriet Gardens has reached a major milestone with the arrival of its first modular “Nest Houses”. The £3m Social Bite project, backed by South Lanarkshire Council and the Salvation Army, aims to offer long-term supported accommodation rather than temporary shelter.
On completion, the village will have 15 small Nest homes and a community hub with shared cooking spaces, activity rooms and therapeutic support, helping residents rebuild confidence and independence ahead of an opening in early 2026.
Day-to-day running costs will be jointly supported by Social Bite and the council, with staff on site around the clock to provide tailored help for people moving on from street homelessness or unstable housing.
