A grizzly bear is being hunted by armed officers in British Columbia after it attacked a school group on a walking trail in Bella Coola, injuring 11 people, including two in a critical condition.
The incident happened on Thursday afternoon, prompting authorities to urge residents to stay indoors while the search continues. BC’s Health Services Authority said four of the injured remained in hospital on Friday.
A parent, Veronica Schooner, told the Canadian Press that a male teacher “took the full force” of the attack, while several children were accidentally exposed to bear spray as adults tried to drive the animal away.
