Glasgow’s George Square: Major Redevelopment Plans

January 20, 2025

Statues in Glasgow’s George Square are set to be removed starting in April as part of a major transformation of the public space.

The square will be fenced off with hoardings during March and April to facilitate the commencement of the redevelopment.

The plans include the introduction of a water feature, a raised lawn, sheltered seating areas, feature lighting, and children’s play zones.

The 11 statues will be restored before being reinstalled in the revitalised square in July 2027. Work on George Square itself is scheduled for completion by August 2026.
