Work is currently under way in Coalburn, South Lanarkshire, to develop what has been described as Europe’s largest battery storage project.
According to the developers, two massive neighbouring battery farms, one situated on the site of a former opencast coal mine, will have the capacity to store enough electricity to power three million homes.
Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) are being constructed across the UK to support the balancing of the electricity grid, which is increasingly reliant on renewable energy sources.
