The Scottish FA has officially confirmed Sébastien Pocognoli as the new head coach of the Scotland Men’s National Team, succeeding Steve Clarke.
The 39-year-old Belgian has signed an initial two-year contract and will take charge as Scotland begin a new chapter following their appearance at the 2026 World Cup.
Pocognoli arrives with a growing reputation in European football. The former Belgium international previously managed Union Saint-Gilloise, remarkably guiding the club to the Belgian league title in 2025 – their first championship in 90 years. He subsequently moved to French giants AS Monaco.
During his playing career, the former left-back represented clubs including Standard Liège, AZ Alkmaar, Hannover 96, West Bromwich Albion and Brighton, as well as earning 13 senior caps for Belgium.
His appointment represents a significant change of direction for Scotland, with Pocognoli becoming the country’s first foreign national-team manager since Berti Vogts more than two decades ago.
Attention will now quickly turn towards the UEFA Nations League, with Scotland’s new boss preparing for his first competitive fixtures in charge.
