A well-known Hamilton bar has announced it has closed its doors with immediate effect, bringing an end to more than two decades at the heart of the town’s nightlife.
ML3 Bar, located on Muir Street, confirmed the news in an emotional statement shared on social media, saying rising costs and the ongoing challenges facing the hospitality industry had made it impossible to continue trading.
The stylish venue first opened in 2004 and has welcomed thousands of customers over the past 22 years, becoming a popular destination for birthdays, celebrations, live music, football matches and nights out with friends.
In a heartfelt farewell, the team said:
“Well… this isn’t the post we thought we’d be writing. After one hell of a ride, the time has come for ML3 Bar to close its doors.”
They went on to explain that running an independent bar had become increasingly difficult, describing the impact of soaring costs, changing customer habits and the many challenges the hospitality sector has faced in recent years.
The statement also paid tribute to loyal customers and staff who helped shape the venue over the years.
“To our customers – thank you for choosing us, recommending us and filling the bar with laughter. You made ML3 what it was.”
Thanking current and former employees, the owners reflected on the friendships, hard work and unforgettable moments shared behind the bar, saying they leave with “plenty of memories, a few grey hairs and enough stories to last a lifetime.”
Concluding their message, the team wrote:
“This chapter may be over, but we’re incredibly proud of what ML3 Bar became and grateful to everyone who was part of it. Thanks for everything… and remember, the first round is always the cheapest.”
The announcement has prompted an outpouring of messages from customers, many sharing memories of nights spent at the popular Hamilton venue and expressing their sadness at seeing another independent business disappear from the town centre.
